As We Walk and Wander

It’s All in the Way You Travel

“I know that I must walk by faith because if I walked by sight,
I would surely turn and run.” –JoJo

They say some trends just never die: classic red lips, that “little black dress,” diamond earrings, long hair, the color black in general, etc., etc. Let me tell you the greatest trend of them all, the one that’s in style no matter what your personal style may be; it’s confidence. Smiling so brightly that it lights up your eyes is a trend that will never die. Being comfortable in your own skin is sexy. Walking tall is graceful. Speaking your mind and being able to stand firm in your own opinions is inspiring. Knowing who you are and what you want is appealing. Confidence is the new black.

As a woman, a woman of any age, really, this can deem difficult at times. As shallow as it may sound, feeling as if you don’t look good is an awful feeling. Ever had one of those days where you can’t find anything to wear amongst your piles and piles of clothing? An outside observer can sit there and tell you everything looks great on you and that you have plenty of choices to choose from, but you still feel awful when you feel like nothing looks good on you. Don’t get me wrong here, looks are NOT all that matter, but I will admit to this fact being true; we feel better when we look our best. Not only do we feel better about ourselves, but other people also react to us better. Other people are attracted to those who are comfortable in their own skin. Why is this? It’s because those confident, comfortable people tend to make us feel comfortable, as well.

So how do we go about finding our confidence? The answer is simple. Learn to love yourself. Celebrate who you are. Find out what you’re good at. Compliment yourself. Take care of your body. Don’t dress like a slob. Furthermore, don’t be a lazy slob in regards to any part of your life. Take yourself seriously. Realize your own beauty. Love yourself, and realize that God loves you even more than that. Don’t ever wish to be anyone else. He didn’t intend for that. Become so comfortable in your own skin that you aren’t afraid to wear it while you take the world by storm. Try new things. Go on adventures. Be who you are. Say what you feel. Love yourself. It’s the first step in allowing others to love you.

Happiness never goes out of style. Comfort in one’s own skin will never get old. No matter how old we get, we will never outgrow the beauty found in a smile. Head up, shoulders back. Confident is the new black.

“For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.”
- Proverbs 3:26
